Red by John Logan is a critically acclaimed two-person play about abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko, focusing on his struggle with artistic integrity, fame, and his commission to paint murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in the late 1950s, exploring themes of art vs. commerce, mentorship, and mortality through his intense relationship with his young assistant, Ken.
